How is android ingrained into the hardware?
The only thing you need is all the parts of the tv to be connected to each other, so a functional tv.
Now i understand you need hdd memory and ram for it to run, also a recognizable graphic card...
my garbage sony kd 55x9005b appears to have some 4GB memory and 1.5GB ram. more than enough to run android. Why does the article say no internal memory?
i ran an upgrade on this tv. i downloaded it and ran it through a USB stick. The file size was way over 200MB.
You can say no developer will bother for a specific tv, me being no such one either.
It doesn't need to be android, it could be linux which comes in a plethora of versions and sizes.
so i don't think your take on this is correct.
Yes, i agree with everyone who says I WILL NEVER EVER BUY A SONY, NEVER EVER EVER AGAIN, and not only this, i will tell everyone i know and can to follow suit. I hope sony goes bankrupt for doing this to its customers.
On my tv, not only they stopped support(as if i cared), they actually literally broke up with opera platform(already crappy, but at least was existent) leaving no room for apps or anything else. Only proprietary garbage software works, everything else that came from opera platform(also garbage, but with some variety) is non functional.
This is coming from someone who has been in possession of at least 6 sony laptops alone, not to mention tvs, phones, walkmen, etc.
I'm finished with sony years ago, i'm just writing here because i own a sexy kd-55x9005b, which i don't want to throw or bother to sell and go buy a much better tv from IKEA.

The Gimbal works in 4k. and even active mode works. But the top level intelligent active is greyed out in 4K. Still stabilizes great in 4K

And Yes it changed my decision, because we wanted to buy PS4 with 2 headsets. Now we won't buy any, because we can't play together, and we won't buy 2 consoles and 2 games just to play it together in one room!

Really pathetic by Sony to provide a high spec 4k TV, ant to stop the Opera TV Service functions, so cusotmers left with a useless TV. Sony have continally over the years provided the worst customer satisfaction. If they had a agreement ot stop this service in 2019, they i would have never puchased this SONy 65X8504a TV. I have had bad luck with every sony product in teh past, and this was a big decision to purchase, along with a $4000 price tag. i will NEVER purchase Sony again. This is a promise. And Word of mouth is powerful, i will spread this to everyone i know. Sony should have at the very lease provided customers with a suitable streaming device to be used, if their Smart Tv Functionality was going to stop....

I thought BOSS referred to the gimbal method of stabilization? That is what I need and can't use a camcorder without. If "Intelligent active" mode is a step above that, I'd still be very happy with the BOSS alone in 4K. It is phenomenal and unsurpassed. I have an NX30 which just died on me and sorely miss. I just returned an NX80 as a replacement and big "step up" but I found it unusable handheld - not to mention horrible in low light. The large sensor may be nice but with an F2.8-4.0 iris, it is severely handicapped. Maybe good on a tripod in studio or outdoors - not my main need.
